Amir Aczel
Amir D. Aczel (born November 6, 1950) is a professor of mathematics and the history of mathematics and science, and author of popular books on mathematics and science. Amir D. Aczel was born in Haifa, Israel. Aczel father was the captain of a passenger ship that sailed mainly in the Mediterranean. When he was ten, Aczel's father taught his son how to steer a ship and sail. based on the book The Riddle of the Compass Aczel .. Aczel was 21 when he studied at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds a BA in mathematics in 1975 and received a Master of Science in 1976. A few years later Aczel earned a doctorate in statistics from the University of Oregon. Aczel has taught mathematics at universities in California, Alaska, Italy and Greece. He married his wife Debra in 1984 and has a daughter and a stepdaughter.He accepted a teaching position at Bentley College in Massachusetts where he taught courses on the history of science and history of mathematics.
